The Gallipoli Landing
The First Anzac troops landed on ANZAC cove on the 25th of April 1915, only a short time after the declaration of global warfare was announced on the 28th of July 1914. Many contributing factors caused the outbreak of the first world war. According to a timeline of events from "History on the net", one of the main events that instigated the first world war was the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria which led to tension between Austria and surrounding nations (History on the web, 2000). As the outbreak of the first world war occurred, militarised warfare broke out between Germany and Russia on the western front. To combat the rapidly expanding military force of the German alliance, Russia formed an alliance with Britain and France. This alliance became to be known as the Triple Alliance. As Australia and New Zealand were governed by the British during the World War 1, the two colonies of Britain along With France were tasked with orders to clear the Dardanelles straight of Turkish influence so they could gain control of the trade route to Russia. This was a crucial part of the campaign as this would enable the Allied nations to provide the Russian forces on the Western Front with resources and ammunition to repel the advancement of the German militarised forces from invading Russia.
Below shows actual footage of the horrific warfare that occurred between the Allied forces and the Turkish army in Gallipoli.
